I can't help but wonder if the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in China affected Bu Xianzhi's play. I hope all of his family is safe, but sadly many lives were lost, with the death toll expected to rise...as it is, it's close to 8,000 people. Living in Kansas, we really don't have to deal with earthquakes too much, tornadoes being our main natural disaster as well as flooding. A strong storm that just went south of this area has claimed 23 lives, nothing like the China disaster, but when disaster strikes, you have to feel for the people, no matter the lives lost, one is too many. All games from round 5 are done, with GM Ivanchuk still on his winning ways! 5 rounds, 5 wins, what a start for GM Vassily Ivanchuk ELO 2740
Here is the Topalov-Bu Xianzhi game,
Now Ivanchuk's 5th win in a row, why did Aronian keep playing with such a disadvantage? Going for stalemate maybe?
A three fold repetition draw between Cheparinov and Radjabov
